Why This Course
Every 911 service in Florida runs aquatic emergencies — near-drownings, submersions, and dive-related injuries. Most EMS providers have never received formal training in recognizing and managing them. For two decades, the Diving Medical Responder program has closed that gap for EMS professionals — and it is now delivered fully online.
You will learn to recognize, assess, and manage:
- Arterial Gas Embolism (AGE) — the most time-critical emergency in diving
- Decompression Sickness, Type I and Type II — including inner ear DCS
- Pulmonary barotrauma and middle ear barotrauma
- Immersion Pulmonary Edema (IPE)
- Oxygen toxicity
- Shallow water blackout, near-drowning, and aspiration injury

- Recognition and Field Management — the capstone module covering signs, symptoms, and treatment across every major dive injury, ending with the Universal BLS Dive Injury Management Algorithm and the critical field errors that harm patients
All modules are fully narrated with closed captions and include supporting course texts and workbooks. The course concludes with a comprehensive final examination. Your certificate of completion — documenting 24 hours of Florida EMS continuing education — is issued upon passing.
