Description

Diving Medical Documentation CE provides EMTs, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals with focused continuing education on documentation practices associated with diving-related emergencies and patient care. Accurate documentation is particularly important in diving medicine because changes in symptoms, neurological findings, dive profiles, oxygen administration, and treatment decisions may influence subsequent patient management.

This module reviews documentation of the dive profile and circumstances surrounding the incident, including information relevant to potential decompression illness and other diving emergencies. Students examine the importance of serial neurological examinations and documenting changes in patient presentation over time. The course also addresses oxygen administration records, patient assessment findings, treatment interventions, and information that should accompany the patient during transfer to definitive care.

Diving Medical Documentation CE also examines medico-legal considerations associated with emergency care. Topics include informed consent, refusal of care, accurate and objective reporting, documentation of patient decisions, and the importance of maintaining complete records.

The module concludes with quality improvement concepts and case review, emphasizing how documentation can support continuity of care, clinical evaluation, operational improvement, and review of diving emergency responses. This course is part of the Trilogy EMS Diving Medical Responder (DMR) continuing education curriculum.
