Surface Water Rescue – Awareness Level
The Surface Water Rescue – Awareness Level course is a 100% online training program designed to provide students with foundational knowledge of surface water rescue operations, hazards, safety considerations, and responder responsibilities.
This course is intended for emergency responders, public safety personnel, and others who may encounter or support a surface water rescue incident but are not completing the practical skills component of a full Surface Water Rescue program.
Course content introduces key concepts related to water dynamics and hazards, personal protective equipment, communications, search considerations, rescue methods, shore-based operations, and responder safety. Emphasis is placed on recognizing hazards, understanding operational limitations, and supporting safe and effective rescue operations.
Awareness-Level Training
This course is delivered entirely online and does not include or require a hands-on practical skills session. Successful completion demonstrates completion of the educational component at the Awareness Level only.
Students who successfully complete the course and required assessment will receive a certificate of completion clearly identifying the training as:

It does not certify or verify practical competency in surface water rescue techniques and should not be represented as a substitute for hands-on practical training when such training is required by an employer, agency, credentialing organization, or applicable standard.
