Description
Unified DMT/RHT Course: 100% Online
Divers get hurt far from a hospital, and the injured diver often ends up in a chamber. The Unified course prepares you for both sides of that: the dive site and the hyperbaric chamber. It leads to two IBHBOT board certifications: Dive Medical Technician, and Associate Hyperbaric Technician on the path to Registered Hyperbaric Technician.
Who this course is for
- EMTs and paramedics who want to work in diving or hyperbaric medicine
- Medics supporting dive operations, commercial and offshore diving, public safety dive teams and hyperbaric chambers
- Physician assistants and nurse practitioners adding diving and hyperbaric medicine to their practice
Built for the medic
Traditional DMT courses were designed to turn commercial divers into medics, so they spend days on clinical skills. You already have those skills. This program builds on what you know and teaches the diving and the chamber, which is why it can be delivered completely online.
IBHBOT board certification
When you complete the course, you can apply to the International Board of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (IBHBOT) for:
- Dive Medical Technician: DMT-A for paramedics, NPs and PAs; DMT-B for EMTs
- Associate Hyperbaric Technician (AHT), then the Registered Hyperbaric Technician (RHT) mark after 500 documented clinical hours and IBHBOT’s portfolio review
What you will learn
- Diving physics and physiology, decompression theory, decompression sickness and arterial gas embolism
- Barotrauma, diving emergencies and the dive neurological exam
- Differential diagnosis of the injured diver and field and operational practice
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy: principles, indications, contraindications and complications
- Chamber systems and operations, treatment protocols and recompression procedures
- Patient care and monitoring, oxygen and fire safety, and hyperbaric emergency procedures
How the course works
- 100% online and self-paced. Start when you enroll and work on your own schedule
- Narrated modules with assessments, and a comprehensive final examination
- No travel and no classroom time
Who can enroll
Enrollment is open to a current EMT, paramedic, physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
