Description

Diving Medical Responder Online Course

Florida CE# – 20-1403300

The Diving Medical Responder (DMR) Online Course – Field Management of Diving and Aquatic Injuries is a comprehensive 40-hour online program designed to build a strong foundation in diving medicine, diving physiology, injury recognition, patient assessment, emergency management, and the coordination of definitive care.

Originally developed for EMTs and Paramedics, the DMR Online Course is now open to divers, dive professionals, public safety personnel, rescue personnel, healthcare providers, and others who want advanced education in diving and aquatic emergencies.

The program bridges the gap between traditional diving first-aid education and the more advanced clinical knowledge required to understand why diving injuries occur, how they present, and how they should be managed from the dive site through definitive medical care.

What You’ll Learn

The course progresses from the physics and physiology of diving through recognition, assessment, treatment, transport, and documentation of diving emergencies. Topics include:

  • Diving physics, pressure and gas behavior
  • Physiology of immersion and exposure to pressure
  • Decompression theory, dive profiles and dive tables
  • Decompression sickness and decompression illness
  • Dive-specific patient assessment and neurological examination
  • Differential diagnosis of the post-dive patient
  • Barotrauma and pulmonary overexpansion injuries
  • Arterial gas embolism
  • Recognition and field management of diving accidents
  • Emergency oxygen delivery and oxygen-supply planning
  • Diving emergency equipment
  • Chamber referral and the hyperbaric medicine interface
  • Divers Alert Network (DAN) consultation
  • Evacuation, flight physiology and transport considerations
  • Documentation, medico-legal considerations and quality improvement
  • Case-based diving emergency scenarios

The course concludes with integrated capstone scenarios and a comprehensive final examination.

Designed to Complement Existing Diving-Medicine Training

DMR Online is not intended to replace established agency-specific or diving-industry training. Instead, it provides a deeper academic foundation that can be particularly valuable when combined with DAN courses, rescue training, and agency-specific diving medicine education.

For EMTs and Paramedics, the curriculum places diving emergencies into the familiar framework of patient assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment, reassessment, consultation, transport and transfer of care.

For divers and non-medical personnel, the course provides an opportunity to study the mechanisms and medical consequences of diving injuries at a significantly greater depth than is typically available in entry-level diving first-aid programs.

100% Online — Learn at Your Own Pace

The academic program is delivered completely online through the Trilogy Emergency Medical Solutions Learning Management System. Students progress through narrated instruction, knowledge checks, case-based learning and a comprehensive final examination.

Important: This course delivers the knowledge component of the Trilogy Diving Medical Responder program. Online completion does not provide or evaluate hands-on psychomotor skills and does not expand any student’s professional scope of practice. Clinical interventions must always be performed within the individual’s existing licensure, certification, agency protocols and medical direction.

A separate hands-on component is available for students pursuing the complete Trilogy Diving Medical Responder program.
