Culture of Safety for Emergency Vehicle Operations is a five-contact-hour online course about the single most repeatable thing any emergency responder does: driving the vehicle. It is not a driving course. It does not teach vehicle handling, and it does not substitute for a behind-the-wheel practical or for the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course. It is a course about judgment, habit, and accountability in the cab and around it, built for the operator on the first shift and for the officer who signs the driving policy.

The course opens with what the crash data actually says: investigated ambulance crashes involve operator error in more than nine cases out of ten, the large majority occur in emergency mode, and intersections are where responders and the public die. It then works through the decisions that produce those crashes — whether to run lights and siren at all, how to approach and clear an intersection, what the cab is for and who touches what while the vehicle is moving, whether the operator is fit to drive at hour nineteen — and closes with the two things an agency controls: how it responds when a driving event happens, and how it builds a driving program that keeps working after the training wears off. The course is state-neutral. State statute, training-hour rules, and documentation requirements appear in a separate state addendum.

The course is designed to serve as both the initial culture-of-safety course for emergency vehicle operators and the annual refresher for an agency’s entire roster. Nothing in it is skill instruction that expires; every module re-arms the operator against the complacency that the research shows returns within one to two years of any training event.
